RUMFORD — Rumford Hospital will offer a free prostate screening clinic on Monday, Sept. 12. Dr. Albert Aniel, an internist who has been at Rumford Hospital for nearly 30 years, will perform the prostate exams. In addition to the physical exam, each participant will have a urine test, blood pressure check and a prostate screening lab test.
The clinic targets men over 40, especially those who do not have a primary care provider. Men who experience difficult urination or who have a family history of prostate cancer should also sign up for the screening.
The prostate screening will be held in the Rumford Hospital Specialty Clinics from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Men who make an appointment will be preregistered by phone so they can proceed directly to the Specialty Clinics on that day without stopping at Patient Registration in the lobby.
Men can make appointments by calling the Prostate Appointment Line at 369-1142 and leaving their name and phone number in the voice mailbox. One of the Specialty Clinic staff will return the call and gather preregistration information.
Representatives from the Maine Coalition to Fight Prostate Cancer will be on hand with information and personal anecdotes. Light refreshments will be served.
