DEAR SUN SPOTS: In response to the Aug. 15 letter from Doug Hayden, Lewiston, I can help him with finding local car shows. The United New Auburn Association puts on a Cruiz Nite every Friday between 5:30 and 8 p.m., weather permitting, in New Auburn at Rolly’s Diner.

We have a free book that is given to the public filled with most of the car shows and cruise nights in the local area and across the state. When you come to the Cruiz Nite, either see myself or the DJ and we can give you a copy.

By the way, last week we had 47 cars, four motorcycles and about 180 people in attendance. I would like to thank Sun Spots for all of her help over the past year with making our event a success every week.

I hope this helps with Doug’s search. I hope to see him Friday. — Stephen J. Martelli, vice chairman, United New Auburn Association, sjmartelli@myfairpoint.net

DEAR SUN SPOTS: First of all, let me say that I love Sun Spots! Read you every morning!

Now, in response to Doug Hayden of Lewiston:

We are the publishers of CruiseMaine, and we have an extensive list of car shows in Maine. Our free magazine can be picked up at locations all over Maine or our event calendar can be viewed at www.cruisemaine.net.

It’s getting a bit late in the season, and CruiseMaine may not be found easily. If Doug gives me a call at 443-4800, I would be happy to mail a copy to him.

We also publish RideMaine, RideNewHampshire, CycleMaine and KayakMaine.

Keep up the great work! — Kim Walker, office administrator, Direct Display Publishing, Bath, kim@direct-display.com

ANSWER: Thank you, Kim, for your kind words. Sun Spots has some particularly tough questions in her in box right now, so the encouragement is especially appreciated!

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I see from the Aug. 15 column that Doug Hayden from Lewiston is looking for antique car shows.

The Chapman House will be hosting an antique car show on Sept. 13 from 4 to 7 p.m. in their Court Street parking lot, next to the Auburn Public Library. The public is invited and welcome. Join us in the festivities for some music, food and vendors. Bring your own chairs.

This car show is part of the Residential Care Week celebration, which runs from Sept. 11-19. — Lisa M. Ouellette, office manager, The Chapman House, louellette1@roadrunner.com

DEAR SUN SPOTS: First, thank you for printing the info about the picnic at Togus on Aug. 14. The weather and attendees were great!

Second, in response to the Aug. 13 inquiries about eyeglass and hearing aid donations, collection boxes are also at the pharmacy area of Hannaford stores in Auburn and Lewiston, which may be more convenient for many people due to the long hours that the stores are open.

Third, there are numerous cruise nights for antique and collectible cars in the L-A area, weather permitting, usually 6 to 8 p.m. On Monday nights, there’s a new one at Town Fair Tire, Auburn; Tuesday nights at Roy’s All Steak Burgers on Route 4, Auburn; Wednesday nights at The Dipper on Route 196, Lisbon; and Friday nights in New Auburn, in Rolly’s Diner parking lot.

If Doug from Lewiston attends any of these, he can speak to car owners or the DJ and get more information that he can imagine.

Another online site that you did not mention, which covers Maine and New England, is roadscholars@live.com. The person that administers this site researches all dates and verifies all information, making sure that everything is correct — a very reliable source.

Keep up the good work! — Deb Desjardins, repunzl@roadrunner.com
