FARMINGTON — A Chesterville man who injured himself during a domestic incident Monday morning received 14 stitches to his head.

Police were called to handle the incident and when they transported him for medical treatment, they discovered reasons to arrest him.

He is now facing charges of trafficking in marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and trafficking in dangerous knives.

After Michael E. Kidd Jr., 20, head-butted a door, he left a Perham Street residence at about 1:20 a.m. Monday before Farmington officer William Tanner arrived, Police Chief Jack Peck said.

Kidd had split his forehead open and was bleeding. Tanner found him walking on Court Street and took him to Franklin Memorial Hospital where he received the 14 stitches.

At some point, Peck said, the officer discovered Kidd was carrying prepackaged marijuana, a pair of portable scales, a pipe and some type of knife.

According to Maine law, the charge for carrying outlawed knives is called trafficking in dangerous knives, Peck said.

The state statue, Chapter 43, 17-A, section 1055, says a person is guilty of trafficking in dangerous knives for possession of any knife that has a blade that opens automatically by hand pressure applied to a button, spring or other device in the handle of the knife, or any knife having a blade that opens or falls or is ejected into position by the force of gravity, or by an outward, downward movement.

Tanner was unavailable Monday to provide more details.

Tanner stayed with Kidd during his treatment then took him to Franklin County Detention Center where Kidd later bailed on $5,000 unsecured. He has a court date scheduled for Oct. 13.
