MINOT — The Minot Budget Committee ended discussions on RSU 16’s proposed 2011-12 budget Tuesday without making any formal recommendations.

“We seem to have raised more questions than we can answer,” committee Chairman Matt Callahan said.

Callahan noted that he was comfortable supporting the budget’s bottom line figure, set at $17,847,765 by the RSU 16 School Committee, but agreed with other committee members who called for a meeting with school Superintendent Dennis Duquette to resolve some questions they had regarding pay increases, particularly for administrators.

“The administrative contracts are out of line to start with. I’m not OK with the pay raises,” Emily Tuttle said.

Tuttle also had some reservations with expanding the prekindergarten program this year.

Colleen Quint agreed that the budget might not be perfect, but, pointing out that the budget’s new bottom line is just about $300,000 lower than it was when first presented to voters in May, declared it to be “reasonable and appropriate.”

“I’ve gone through the whole budget. I don’t love every element of it, but I’m basically comfortable with where they are at,” Quint said.

Gina Moulton said that a meeting with Duquette could go a long way to resolving some fundamental questions she had trying to understand some of the shifts in budget lines.

Callahan agreed to contact Duquette and set up a meeting early next week, with the idea that the Budget Committee will still be able to develop formal recommendations that can be presented at the Mechanic Falls-Minot-Poland district meeting on Sept. 7.
