WILTON — The Police Department is preparing for the first day of school on Tuesday, Sept. 6, by posting crossing guards at the two usual locations morning and afternoon, interim Chief Richard Billian.
Officers will also watch the school zone and motorists may see officers out of their vehicles using hand-held radar guns, he said in a release. Speeding fines are doubled in school zones.
Billian is working with school Principal Darlene Paine to assure there are zero incidents.
“Our children are most important to us and my department will diligently enforce the school zones. I hope that this will automatically slow people down, so speeding tickets do not need to be written,” he said.
Police also remind bicyclers, children need to wear a helmet, and if children do not have a helmet they can see the school principal to possibly receive one.
