PHILLIPS — Commemorating Fly-rod Crosby, the first female guide in the state, the greater Phillips area Circle for the Arts has created The Mission of the Fish, a project to draw the town together with a common theme.

The proceeds from this fundraiser are earmarked for professionally designed murals that will be created by area school children with the help of artist Saskia Reinholt.

Participants will receive a wooden fish, approximately 18 to 20 inches long, primed with white paint and already attached to a yard spike made of bamboo. Participants decorate a jumping fish and stand it in their front yard. A prize will be given to the most imaginative fish created by a nonprofessional artist. Judging will take place Nov 1.

Fish are $25 each and money goes to support arts projects in the community, including professionally designed wall murals, subsidized art classes for children and adults, subsidized music lessons, theatre programs, the Christmas Tour of Homes and other worthy projects.

To buy a fish, contact Susy Sanders at Morning Bridge Center, 639-2419, Hedy Langdon at the Phillips Public Library, 639-2665, or Saskia Reinholt at Reinholt Gallery, 639-6019.
