POLAND SPRING — In keeping with its commitment to the people of Maine, Poland Spring Water Company recently awarded 20 Good Science Scholarships in the amount of $1000 to Maine high school seniors who are pursuing post-secondary education in science, engineering or the environment.
This year, the Poland Plant awarded three additional scholarships to Poland-area students in memory of Manny Wing, a longtime Poland Spring employee who was also a talented local musician. Wing passed away early this year and to honor his memory the company decided to award three musically inclined local high school seniors a $1,000 Manny Wing Music Scholarship.
The scholarship recipients include the following area students.
Fryeburg Academy: Kaila Gibbons, of Denmark, Northeastern University (Mass.); Samantha Kruguer, Brownfield, Gordon College (Mass.), biology; Colby Locke, Denmark, Ithaca College (N.Y.), athletic physical science; Marya McLaughlin, Fryeburg, Northern Arizona University, forensic chemistry; and Camille Surrett, Fryeburg, Southern Maine Community College, zoology.
Mt. Abram High School: Aaron Jalbert, Phillips, St. Joseph’s College of Maine, exercise science; William London, Kingfield, University of Maine, environmental science; Clayre A. Plog, Madrid Township, University of Maine, animal and veterinary science; Elise Presby, Avon, University of Maine, nursing; and Colleen Shields, Kingfield, University of New Hampshire, exercise science/nutrition.
Poland Regional High School: Frank Benedict, Poland, University of Maine, engineering; Joseph Costa, Minot, Wentworth Institute of Technology (Mass.), mechanical engineering; Conrad Labbe, Minot, Maine Maritime Academy, marine engineering; Joshua Morgan, Minot, University of Maine, chemistry; and Alex Scales, Poland, University of Maine, engineering.
