WILTON — A local man was charged with failing to stop at a stop sign after a collision at routes 156 and 2 Thursday evening, interim police Chief Richard Billian said.
Brandon Cochran, 19, was given a traffic citation, he said.
Neither he nor driver Ellen Thorne, 19, of Rumford needed to be taken to a hospital.
Cochran was traveling north on Route 156 at about 6 p.m. in a 1999 Ford Ranger and was crossing Route 2 when his truck hit Thorne’s 2006 Toyota headed west on Route 2, Billian said.
After the collision, Thorne’s vehicle hit a utility pole, knocking down electrical wires and a traffic light. Police detoured traffic through town, however a long line of 18-wheelers waited at the top of Burgess Hill because they couldn’t turn around, he said.
Traffic was disrupted for about an hour until Central Maine Power could fix the lines, he said. The Maine Department of Transportation was also notified.
Wilton police were assisted by Wilton Fire Department and NorthStar Ambulance.
