BRUNSWICK — After battling through a scoreless first half, Dakota Foster drove in a penalty kick with 18:26 in the game, allowing Brunswick to drift away with a 1-o lead against Oxford Hills in a girls’ soccer game Saturday.
A handball penalty was called and Foster was given the opportunity to score the game-winning goal.
Breanna Martin made 11 saves for the Vikings. The Dragons outshot Oxford Hills, 9-1 and held the advantage in corners at 8-1.
Boys’ soccer
Mt. Ararat 2, Lewiston 1
LEWISTON — Mt. Ararat punched in a pair of goals in the first half and its defense made the one-goal lead stand up as the Eagles slipped away with a 2-1 victory over Lewiston in a boys’ soccer game Saturday.
Will Hisnak scored on a throw-in and Nick Oram dropped in a direct kick to give the Eagles the lead in the first half.
The Blue Devils responded with one goal when Dahair Muktar scored on a Benji Saban assist.
The teams played through a scoreless second half. Lewiston goalie Eric Soucy made three saves and Mt. Ararat’s Gabe Pelletier came away with five.
Falmouth 5, Poland 0
FALMOUTH — After a scoreless first half, Falmouth adjusted to Poland’s defensive schemes and pulled away for a 5-0 victory on Saturday.
Falmouth enjoyed a 42-0 advantage in shots and 15-0 edge in corner kicks despite the even first half.
It took the Yachtsmen 3:27 into the second half to get on the scoreboard when Grant Burfiend scored his first of two goals.
Dillon Davis was credited with 12 saves in goal for the Cougars.
Field hockey
Oxford Hills 1, Hampden 0
HAMPDEN — Despite facing more shots and allowing more penalty corners, Oxford Hills weathered the Hampden onslaught and managed the lone goal of the game as the Vikings opened the season with a 1-0 victory over the Broncos.
Heather Verrier scored the game’s only goal on a feed from Kali Dixon, and Abi Egan recorded her first varsity win and shutout with a 12-save performance.
Hampden’s Maggie Ross stopped four shots in the loss.
Lawrence 3, Edward Little 1
FAIRFIELD — Lawrence scored twice in the first half and held on for a 3-1 triumph over Edward Little.
After Dee Armout and Julia Lawrence gave the Bulldogs a 2-0 cushion at halftime, Taylor Berube scored at 11:15 of the second half on a pass from Jordan Tate to cut the deficit to one goal.
Amanda Williams made six saves in goal for the Eddies.
