On Sunday, Sept. 11, Phillips’ Post 64 of the American Legion will host an American Flag Disposal Ceremony in remembrance of the victims of 9/11. The nighttime outdoor memorial homage will begin at 7 p.m. at the Legion Hall on Depot Street. Officers and members of the post and its Ladies Auxiliary, led by its commander, Richard Stovall, and Auxiliary president, Daria Babbit, will conduct a public flag disposal ceremony in accordance with the nation’s flag lore as prescribed by Legion and military regulations. The solemn memorial will be held in observance of the 10th anniversary of the attack on the World Trade Center on the morning of Sept. 11, 2001. The public is invited and encouraged to attend and to participate. Pictured around Post 64’s symbols are tattered and faded flags to be honorably burned.
