OGUNQUIT — Maria Muldaur, best known for her 1974 Grammy-nominated “Midnight at the Oasis,” will perform live with her Red Hot Bluesiana Band on Friday, Sept. 30, at Jonathan’s Ogunquit.

During the folk revival of the early 1960s, Muldaur began singing early blues, bluegrass and Appalachian “old timey” music. She started her recording career in 1963 with the Even Dozen Jug Band. Shortly thereafter, she joined the popular Jim Kweskin Jug Band, touring and recording with the group throughout the ’60s.

In the 37 years since “Midnight at the Oasis,” Muldaur has toured extensively worldwide. She recorded 38 solo albums covering American roots music, including gospel, R&B, jazz and big band, before settling comfortably into the blues in recent years.

Often joining forces with some of the top names in the business, Muldaur has recorded and produced on-average an album per year. Her 2001 release, “Richland Woman Blues,” was nominated for a Grammy and by the Blues Foundation as Best Traditional Blues Album of the Year, as was the follow-up to that album, “Sweet Lovin’ Ol’ Soul.”

Her timely 2008 album, “Yes We Can!,” includes songs from Bob Dylan, Marvin Gaye, Allen Toussaint and Garth Brooks; and features her “Women’s Voices for Peace Choir,” including Bonnie Raitt, Joan, Baez, Jane Fonda, Odetta, Phoebe Snow and Holly Near.

For her 2009 release, Muldaur revisited her original jug band roots, teaming up with John Sebastian, David Grisman and Dan Hicks. “Maria Muldaur & Her Garden of Joy” was nominated for Best Traditional Blues Album of the Year by the Blues Foundation, and earned Muldaur her sixth Grammy nomination.

This year, for her latest release, “Steady Love,” Muldaur returned to New Orleans to record a contemporary electric blues album that reflects the kind of music she loves to perform live — what she calls bluesiana music. She continues to enjoy creative collaborations with some of the finest artists in her field and tours regularly worldwide.

Tickets for the 8 p.m. show start at $27.50. They are available online at www.jonathansogunquti.com. Jonathan’s Restaurant is at 92 Bourne Lane.
