LEWISTON — Hugh Keene, chairman of the Board of Directors at the USM Lewiston-Auburn Senior College, will be the presenter at the “Food for Thought” luncheon on Friday, Sept. 9. He will give a lecture titled “Beyond Relativity, the Theory of Everything.”

Keene will give a quick review of Einstein’s special theory of relativity. He will continue with an explanation of the general theory of relativity and quantum mechanics and the conflict between the two, as physicists try to find a theory that will combine the two. This is TOE, The Theory of Everything.

Keene, now retired, was chair of the science department at Edward Little High School for 26 years. He and fellow teacher Carol Boyce of the English department developed a course that combined physics and literature. In this course, The Theory of Everything was introduced and debated.

Keene, a popular teacher at USM L/A College, teaches several courses at senior college and directs the Readers Theater for the senior college program there.

Senior College, now in its 13th year, presents the monthly 11:30 luncheon program in the Function Room 170 at USM LAC. The cost, which includes lunch, is $7 with advance reservation or $8 at the door. Reservations must be made by noon Sept. 8 by calling 753-6510. Any late callers will be considered “at the door.”
