PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — FairPoint Communications is laying-off 400 employees.
FairPoint officials said Thursday that 130 of the job cuts are in Maine, 190 in New Hampshire and 55 in Vermont. Another 25 jobs are being cut in the other 15 states where FairPoint operates.
The jobs include about 100 management positions and 300 union-represented positions.
FairPoint Maine President Mike Reed says the company is cutting jobs to match its work force to its work load. FairPoint has been losing business in recent years as customers switch to cell phones and other companies.
FairPoint is based in Charlotte, N.C., and provides landline telephone and Internet services in 18 states, with nearly 1.4 million access lines.
