MEXICO — Two school boys’ quick thinking helped police arrest two men on a charge of attempted robbery.

On Monday officer Kyle Matthews charged 19-year-olds Joshua Weldon and Brandon Buzynski, both of Shapleigh, with attempted robbery. Weldon was also charged with Class D assault.

The school boys were riding bikes on River Road in Mexico when Weldon and Buzynski approached in a vehicle. The two men threatened them, demanded money, and Weldon shoved one of the youths, Lt. Roy Hodsdon, of the Mexico Police Department, said.

The boys rode home on their bikes and alerted their parents who called police.

“They were able to provide us with a vehicle description and plate. From that information we were able to create a photo lineup. Both boys identified the driver of the vehicle,” Hodsdon said.

Weldon and Buzynski were released on bail and have a Dec. 16 arraignment in Oxford County Superior Court.
