AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) — New U.S. Census will provide updates on the number of people lacking health insurance nationally and in Maine.
The U.S. Census Bureau is to release its new figures, based on the 2010 census, on Tuesday.
Current national figures show the number of people without health insurance coverage rose from 46.3 million in 2008 to 50.7 million in 2009, while the percentage increased from 15.4 percent to 16.7 percent over the same period.
In Maine, census figures from 2009 show roughly 133,000 people, or about 10 percent of Maine’s population, without any kind of health coverage. That was lower than the national percentage and among the lowest nationally.
