DEAR SUN SPOTS: Fall is fast approaching and before we know it, winter will be nipping at our toes. Every day, thousands of feral cats endure the harsh winter weather just to survive. Tommy’s Feral Feline Friends helps to build up the outdoor makeshift homes that the cats have set up residence in by fortifying the shelters with blue spruce boughs. Tommy’s prefer using blue spruce because the needles survive much longer than other evergreen branches. If you have any boughs or branches that you can donate, it would be very much appreciated.

If you have any blue spruce trees that were damaged or have fallen because of Tropical Storm Irene, please call Norm of Tommy’s Feral Feline Friends at 650-8374. Thank you, once again, for your help. — Sherry, Mechanic Falls, sherito@aol.com

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Why weren’t there any brand-saver coupons from Procter & Gamble in the Sunday paper this morning (Sept. 4)? — Jayne via email

ANSWER: The Sun Journal’s Circulation Director Michael Theriault said that “our coupon manufacturers do not publish coupons on national holidays or holiday weekends.”

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Can you just purchase the coupon inserts from the Sunday papers? If so, how many inserts are the limit and how much would they be? Also, is there any way they can be purchased at the Advertiser Democrat?

Sometimes when I go to certain stores they are sold out and I end up traveling around just to get a couple papers and all I want are the coupons. Local stores in town have told me that any papers they do not sell go back to the Advertiser, so I was just wondering if the coupons could be set aside to be purchased weekly. Thank you! — Sarah via email

ANSWER: Sun Spots has covered this issue before and once again turned to Circulation Director Mike Theriault, who said: “No, the coupon inserts cannot be purchased without purchasing the Sunday edition of the Sun Journal. We are contracted by the manufacturers to ensure that they are not sold individually. The Sunday newspaper can be purchased at our Advertiser Democrat office in Norway during normal business hours.”

DEAR SUN SPOTS: In response to the Sept. 3 request, I have had several pairs of scissors sharpened at Roy’s Bicycle Shop on Farwell Street in Lewiston. 783-9090. — R.A.C., Lewiston

DEAR SUN SPOTS: You will probably get lots of responses for the pigeon problem on the roof (Sept. 3). What has worked for me has been to place a fake owl nearby where they can see it from the roof. There are large plastic ones available or, perhaps, in yard sales she may find ceramic ones. Hope this helps. — Melanie via email

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am trying to locate a copy of a recipe book produced by the Edward Little High School Band. The recipe book was one of my favorites, and I lost my copy in a fire. I purchased the book many years ago and am hoping that someone might have one that they do not want any longer. I can be reached at 577-4136. Thank you. — No Name, No Town
