AUBURN — “Back to Church Sunday,” part of a national movement of churches across the United States, will be celebrated at Court Street Baptist Church at 9:45 a.m. Sept. 18. Everyone is welcome to attend.

National “Back to Church Sunday” is an initiative that seeks to reach the “un-churched” and “de-churched” – people who once attended church, but don’t anymore — and invite them to return for a special Sunday.

The American Religious Identification Survey showed that 83 percent of American adults identify themselves as Christians. In contrast, another survey by the Barna Group indicated only 20 percent of Americans attend church on any given Sunday.

Court Street member Jan Bunford said, “We have spoken with visitors who express that they are searching for fellowship, a relationship with God. We’ve also met folks who know they are searching, but can’t articulate an emptiness they feel. We want to welcome our neighbors to church Sept. 18 with the hope they begin to find what they are searching for.”
