LEWISTON – The Greater Androscoggin Humane Society is accepting registrations for the 15th annual Strutt your Mutt Dog Walk & Pet Festival on Saturday, Sept. 24, at the Simard-Payne Memorial Park from 9 a.m. to noon.

The morning will feature a 9:30 a.m. Blessing of the Animals followed by a shot-gun start for walkers and their canine companions, followed by pet crafts, vendors, raffles and canine agility demonstrations. Attendees can also enter their pooch in one of the talent contests. Contest categories include: best tail wagger, least obedient dog, best trick, best smile, best kisser and best bark. Adoptable shelter dogs will also attend the walk in hopes of finding their forever-home.

Cost to register for the walk is $15 in advance (received no later than Sept. 16) and $25 on site the day of the event. Walkers are also asked to collect pledges. There will be a registration fee for the talent contests of $3 per class or four classes for $10. The money raised from this day stays in the community and directly benefits the homeless, abandoned and abused animals at Humane Society for their food, shelter, veterinary care and a chance at a new home.

This is a “people” walk; dogs are welcome, but not necessary. Walking as a team through your business or with friends is also encouraged. Dogs must be leashed and have their current rabies vaccination. No dogs in heat please. Pledge sheets are available at the shelter or online at www.gahumane.org.
