DEAR SUN SPOTS: I need your help locating the women who were at the L’orphelinat Saint Joseph also known as Marcotte Home in Lewiston between 1950 and the closing in 1963-64. This was an orphanage run by the “grey nuns.”

Since it was all girls who were boarded I’ve had absolutely no luck finding married last names. Most of us have not seen or heard from each other in over 40 years. I would like Sun Spots to ask everyone to pass the word around and contact me.

I would like to have a reunion of those of us who were boarded there. — Julie Jipson, juliejoe7@roadrunner.com

DEAR SUN SPOTS: On Sept. 2 No Name in Turner wrote to you seeking my help locating a missing family member. You told her that I help people find missing funds, which is true, but I am also willing to try to help this person, as I do have access to some locators not available to many computers.

Please give them my contact information or email me theirs. As with my other volunteer work, there will be no charge nor will donations be accepted. — Ellis McKeen, EllisMcKeen@aol.com, 582-2988

ANSWER: Sun Spots thinks Ellis should win some kind of award for all his efforts to help people. She is sure that No Name will be very grateful. Because she wished to remain anonymous, Sun Spots will send Ellis her email address privately.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Last year I wrote to you from Australia about my mother’s pen friend, Helen Newell. I asked if any of your readers could give me information about her for a book I was writing about my mother.

I was delighted at the response I had to the letter you kindly published on March 31. So many wrote back, including members of the Richard family who were closely associated with Helen. One of them had even kept a couple of the letters that my mother wrote to Helen in 1935!

The book, “Phillipa’s Album,” is now published in a limited edition. I shall bring a couple of copies when I visit your region on Sunday, Sept. 25. One copy shall be put in the local library for interested readers.

If any of you good people would like to meet me in Strong, please email me or just turn up! I shall plan to be outside the Strong Library, 14 South Main St., at 3 p.m. on Sept. 25. — Stephany Evans Steggall, ssteggall@y7mail.com
