PARIS – Longtime resident Phemie Russell gathered with family and friends on July 21 at the Market Square Health Care Center and celebrated her 102nd birthday. She was surrounded by three generations of family members who traveled from around the state to be a part of the celebration. The dining hall was full as residents and family members sang happy birthday as her lunch was served.
Russell has lived in Norway the majority of her life and is known by residents and staff as “The Lady of the Lake.” Years ago, she and her husband ran an ice business out of their home on Norway Lake. Once ice machines were placed in stores, she began working at Norway National Bank as an employee for the next 30-plus years. Russell has been a resident at Market Square Health Care Center for the past several years and is described as someone who has personality plus.
