AUBURN — Former at-large City Councilor Ron Potvin has announced he is seeking election to his former seat. Potvin held the position from 2007 to 2009 before stepping down to run for mayor.

During his time on the council, Potvin said, he worked to reduce the tax levy by more than $3 million, helped reorganize city hall and Auburn schools for better efficiency, and worked on a budget that kept the mill rate steady at $19 per $1,000 of property value while maintaining a reasonable level of spending.

“Some service delivery has suffered, but until revenue streams from both federal and state open up, the city has to resist the urge to splurge,” Potvin said.

Before his years on the council, Potvin headed the Small Property Owners of Auburn, served on the citizens’ budget committee of 2006 and served on the Auburn Zoning Board of Appeals from 2005 to 2008.
