GREENE — Gov. Paul LePage has nominated a retired major in the Maine State Police to serve on the Gambling Control Board.

Timothy Doyle of Greene has experience with gambling law. During his time in the state police, he oversaw and helped write many of the rules when the Bangor racino was approved in 2004, according to a news release from the Maine Department of Public Safety.

Doyle served on the state police from 1984 to 2008 and is now president of the Maine Motor Transport Association in Augusta.

The Gambling Control Board oversees gaming in Maine. Casinos and slot machine facilities must apply for and renew licenses to operate gambling facilities with the board.
