TOWNSHIP D — A Dixfield couple suffered head and facial injuries on Sunday afternoon when the wife ran her motorcycle into the rear of her husband’s motorcycle at Height of Land, Rangeley police said.
Officer Ron Wood said Harry and Joann Carver were riding north on Route 17 toward Rangeley when Harry Carver decided to turn into the Height of Land parking area at 4 p.m. to take some photographs.
His wife, who was driving a 2008 Can-Am Spyder three-wheel motorcycle, failed to see the right-turn signal blinking on Harry’s 2011 Harley Cruiser and his brake lights and ran into it, Wood said.
“She hit him doing approximately 35 mph, and then continued across the road,” he said.
“She traveled 118 feet and hit a rock embankment, where she came to rest. When she hit him, he skidded 35 feet with his foot peg ground into the tar.”
Wood said Harry Carver wasn’t wearing a helmet and suffered facial lacerations because of it.
Med-Care Ambulance took the 66-year-olds to Rumford Hospital. By 8:30 p.m., they were still being treated, a nursing supervisor said. She couldn’t provide their conditions.
Both bikes were totaled, Wood said, before he had to head out to handle another accident.
