DEAR SUN SPOTS: In reply to Lori of Livermore (Sept. 8) the island in question used to be very much larger. About 75 or 100 years ago a local farmer would put sheep on this island and leave them there for the summer and fall.

The island was also burned over about 50 years ago. The water around the island extending out about 100 feet or so is very shallow, about two feet deep. Erosion will eventually make this landmark go into the pages of history. — Hector Creamer, w2iry@hotmail.com

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am looking for four-hole men’s shirt buttons. The color doesn’t matter as long as they are small and have four holes. The buttons can be sent to P.O. Box 56, Greene, ME 04236.

Also, I am wondering if there is somebody willing to rake the leaves for me as I can no longer do it. I am a widow and disabled and it’s getting too hard. I would really appreciate the help. — No Name, Greene

ANSWER: Sometimes the Boy Scouts or other groups undertake such tasks, but the demand is great. Perhaps some unemployed individual in your neighborhood might welcome the work.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Recently someone was looking for a chest-type freezer to store grain. I have one for free if anyone is interested. Call 925-2311. — No Name, Lovell

ANSWER: Sun Spots couldn’t find a record of that request in her files, but it sounds like a good way to thwart mice.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I wonder if you could print out the words to “How Can You Mend a Broken Heart?” sung by the Bee Gees in the 1970s. I do not have a computer. Thanks. — No Name, No Town

ANSWER: Several different performers have sung this timeless love song, but since you specified the Bee Gees, Sun Spots got this version (claimed to be theirs) from absolutelylyrics.com:

I can think of younger days when living for my life

Was everything a man could want to do.

I could never see tomorrow, but I was never told about the sorrow.

And how can you mend a broken heart?

How can you stop the rain from falling down?

How can you stop the sun from shining?

What makes the world go round?

How can you mend a this broken man?

How can a loser ever win?

Please help me mend my broken heart and let me live again.

I can still feel the breeze that rustles through the trees

And misty memories do days gone by

We could never see tomorrow, no one said a word about the sorrow.

And how can you mend a broken heart?

How can you stop the rain from falling down?

How can you mend this broken man?

Please help me mend my broken heart and let me live again.
