RUMFORD — American Legion Auxiliary Unit 24 will sponsor a benefit to support the Safe Voices program in Rumford.

The program lost its funding from Rumford when a majority of town meeting voters rejected donating $4,000 to Safe Voices.

Formerly known as the Abused Women’s Advocacy Project, Safe Voices helps victims of domestic abuse and violence in Oxford, Franklin and Androscoggin counties.

The Legion event is from 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, to 12 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 2, in the Legion hall at 184 Congress St.

There will be a spaghetti supper and bake sale from 4 to 7 p.m. The cost is $5 for children, $7 for adults.

That will be followed by a dance from 8 p.m. to midnight featuring the band “Legends.”

Additionally, there will be raffles and a Chinese auction.

“Lately, it has been hard to turn on the television or pick up a newspaper without reading about someone who has suffered from domestic violence,” the Legion’s event site on Facebook states.

“Please come out and enjoy the evening and support this necessary program.”

For those wanting to donate to the auction, post a message on the Facebook event site at http://tinyurl.com/3crzp9t and someone will respond.

Gift certificates, gift baskets, bake sale items and cash donations will be accepted.

Dance tickets are available at the Legion, or leave a message on the site.
