BIDDEFORD — Allison Beckler, D.O., daughter of Doug and Mary Lou Beckler of Canton, a member of the graduating class of 2011 at the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine, was awarded the degree of doctor of osteopathic medicine at commencement ceremonies held May 21.

UNE graduated 120 physicians at the ceremony, including four dual DO/Master of Public Health and two dual DO/Master of Medical Education Leadership degree recipients. Later that day, the physicians and MMEL graduates received their hoods — the most symbolic part of the academic regalia — at a separate hooding ceremony at Merrill Auditorium.

Beckler will intern at the UMass Memorial Medical Center, Worcester, Mass., prior to a residency in combined adult/child and adolescent psychiatry.
