PARIS — Adults, often called non-traditional students, are returning to school in record numbers. The average age of students at Maine community colleges is 29. It is not uncommon to see people in their 60s and even 70s on campus.

In this economy, many are realizing a degree is necessary to succeed in the current job market. Some are returning to college to fine tune or enhance their skills in order to move ahead at work. Some have spent time at work or raising a family and want to fulfill their dream of going to college.
