FREEPORT — There will be plenty of chowder available  at L.L. Bean’s Discovery Park on Saturday, Oct. 1, courtesy of the 19th annual Chowdah Challenge hosted by Freeport Community Services.

Proceeds from the event, from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., will go to Freeport Community Services for the benefit of families needing food, heating fuel and other social services.

Providing clam and seafood chowders as well as lobster bisques will be local chefs and restaurants: Buck’s Naked Barbecue, Freeport Cafe, Freeport Chowder House, Gritty’s, Harraseeket Inn, Linda Bean’s Maine Kitchen and Topside Tavern, The Lobster Cooker, Jameson’s Tavern, the 1912 Cafe and Petrillo’s.

Cost of chowder sampling and voting: $10. Homemade pies and ice cream, $3.50.
