With the temperature at about 90 degrees, Matt Barker of Harrison and Scott Wheelis of Bowden gave a demonstration at Waterford World’s Fair showing how farming was done many years ago. The team of oxen were a cross breed of Holstein and Brown Swiss. They weighed 1750 pounds combined and were about 3 1/2 years old. Wayne Millakin of Poland provided two pieces of equipment that he refurbished, a walker plow and a spring tooth harrow which performed as if they were new. A small crowd stood and watched the men and the oxen and one gentleman was heard saying he remembered using those kinds of farming equipment when he was younger and he was glad he did not have to use them that day as hot as it was.
