The Telstar boys continued to roll through their Mountain Valley Conference schedule this week, winning a five-team meet at Monmouth Wednesday to improve to 4-0 in the conference.

The Rebels placed four in the top six to finish with 32 points to defeat Hall-Dale (67), Winthrop (71), Monmouth (93) and Dirigo (98).

Josef Holt-Andrews turned in a winning time of 17:45 over the 5k course. The trio of Ben Lewis, Adam Mahar and Bronson Dean packed for fourth, fifth and sixth and Matthew Keane finished 16th.

Holt-Andrews enjoyed his first victory of the season. He had raced against two-time defending Class C champion Matt McClintock of Madison in the first three conference meets.

Cougars handle Hornet’s net

Mt. Blue’s depth won out in a five-team meet at Leavitt last Friday. Addie Cullenberg finished second behind Maranacook’s Abby Mace, but it was the seventh, eighth, 10th and 11th-place finishes of Louisa Stancioff, Maryam Northon, Katherine Gunther and Emily Roberts, respectively, that vaulted the Cougars to a 20-point win over Leavitt.

Lucy Knowlton (third) and Maddie Wiegman (fourth) helped the Hornets to a solid second-place finish on their home course, edging out Maranacook by two points. Lisbon’s Meagan Thomas finished ninth and Angie Bulgin 12th.

Maranacook edged out Mt. Blue in the boys’ race by two points. Justin Tracy, Sully Jackson and Dustin Staples finished first, second and fourth, respectively, but the Black Bears posted five of the top 11 finishers for the win. Jeremy Read of Oxford Hills, Tim Enos of Leavitt and Mt. Blue’s Alex Chandler also had top 10 finishes. Andrew Smith (12th) was the top runner for Lisbon and was immediately followed by Ben Kates and Joe Daigle to lead the Greyhounds to third place.

Eddies take down Downeast teams

The Edward Little boys headed downeast for a six-team meet at Medomak Valley High School in Waterboro last Friday. The Red Eddies claimed five of the top 11 spots to finish with 35 points and a comfortable 16-point victory over the hosts as well as Erskine, Lincoln, Belfast and Camden Hills.

Luc Bourget and Justin LeClair finished 10 seconds apart for third and fourth place. Matt Yarnovich (seventh), Isaac White (10th) and Anthony Gardner, who reached around a second before three other runners, pushed the Eddies over the top.

Led by Abby Dunn (16th), the EL girls finished fourth.

Along the trail

Two locals from the Western Maine Conference continued their outstanding starts to the season. Poland freshman Kristina Smith won her second and third meets of the season at York and Wells … Sophomore Will Shafer of Gray-New Gloucester also picked up his second win, completing his home course in 17:47, 20 seconds ahead of the field, at a meet featuring a powerful North Yarmouth Academy squad. Aided by Jeremy Holmquist, Dylan Fowler, Ian Marshall and Danny Marshall, the Patriots finished second behind the Panthers and ahead of Yarmouth, Wells and Traip… Lewiston continued its impressive start with a 20-point victory over five KVAC foes at Messalonskee. Mohammed Barre, Kevin Lavertu and Mohamed Awil finished 3-4-5, and Mohamed Mohamed finished seventh. Nicole Court-Menedez (fifth) and Faith Shaw (seventh) post top-10 times as the Blue Devil girls placed third among three teams.
