Tish Caldwell gives Michele Tribou a hug as Wendy Tardif explains the new Dempsey Challenge 5K run/walk course at Simard-Payne Memorial Park in Lewiston on Thursday. This year’s challenge features new 5K and 10K courses. A group of people gathered to give the route a test run. After receiving feedback from past years’ participants, organizers created a “more forgiving course,” said Mark Turcotte, communications director for the Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing fundraiser. Tribou of Auburn is a graduate of the YMCA Couch to 5K program and will run in her first Dempsey Challenge on Oct. 8. Caldwell is the youth fundraising coordinator and Tardif is the Dempsey Center executive director.
