NEWPORT — The Maine Old Cemetery Association will hold its third 2011 program day on Saturday, Oct. 1, at the Newport Cultural Center, 154 Main St.
Featured speakers will be Roland Jordan presenting “MIP overview,” which will be an overview of the Maine Inscription Project, an ongoing MOCA project to transcribe and make available the information from gravestones throughout Maine, and Leigh Hallett, director of the Newport Cultural Center, who will present information about NCC and Newport’s cemeteries.
Everyone is welcome. Registration is from 8:30 until 9:15 a.m. Registration cost is $3 at the door. During registration time there will be exhibits and displays. Attendees are invited to display information about cemetery-related projects.
In the afternoon there will be a tour of some Newport cemeteries. Participants should plan to bring lunch or eat locally.
