PARIS — A Rumford man was found not guilty of domestic violence assault Friday after his two-day trial in Oxford County Superior Court.

Larry J. Francis, 33, was acquitted of two charges that he assaulted a woman on Oct. 7 and 9, 2010. The jury deliberated for about half an hour before delivering both verdicts.

Assistant District Attorney Joseph O’Connor, in summing up the state’s case Friday, said the woman told police that Francis came to her Dixfield home on Oct. 7, yelling and pushing her into appliances. The woman’s friend testified that she heard pounding on the door and a man’s voice yelling as their phone conversation ended at that time.

Francis later called police to say he’d been threatened by the woman, O’Connor said.

He said the woman never notified police of either incident, but did tell her friends.

Francis’ attorney, Jason Dionne, told the jury the woman had first told police the attack happened Oct. 6 and accused her of changing her story. He said no one in the building heard the argument.

“There is so much reasonable doubt in this case that I could stand here for hours talking about it,” Dionne said.

O’Connor, recapping the complainant’s testimony about the Oct. 9 incident, said that on that morning she went to Francis’ home and after spending some time with him, he abruptly got angry and threw her out of the house.

She was taken to a hospital, where doctors saw bruising, and one doctor testified Friday that it looked about a week old.

O’Connor said Francis called police to say the woman tried to get into his house, was drunk and throwing and breaking things.

Also Friday, Justice Robert Clifford dismissed a previous charge of domestic violence assault against Francis for an incident March 30, 2010, involving the same woman. Francis pleaded guilty Sept. 17, 2010, and the charge was to be dropped after a year if he stayed out of trouble.

O’Connor argued he should go to jail because of the October charges, but the judge disagreed.
