FARMINGDALE, Maine (AP) — State troopers shot and killed a man hours after he went into a house and fired a weapon at people inside, police said.
Paul Fritze, 41, of Farmingdale was shot outside the 210 Bowman St. house around 8:30 p.m. Saturday, about four hours after police were called for a report of shots fired, Maine State Police spokesman Steven McCausland told the Kennebec Journal.
Fritze, who lives down the street, went to the home for a birthday party, McCausland told the newspaper.
Brenda Kielty, spokeswoman for the Maine Attorney General’s Office, which is investigating the shooting, did not know if Fritze died at the scene.
When Fritze started shooting, the homeowners fled the house and called police, McCausland said.
Fritze was shot and killed by Trooper Timothy Black. Kielty was unable to confirm whether Black had been placed on paid administrative leave, though that is standard procedure after police-involved shootings.
