LEWISTON — Normand A. Potvin, 81, of 10 Oak Park died Sunday, Sept. 25, peacefully at home with his family at his side after a long illness.
He was born in Auburn, April 29, 1930, the son of the late Alfred and Yvonne (Turgeon) Potvin. Normand was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Korean Conflict. He married the former Florence Lajoie, Oct. 3, 1953. He was employed at the Bates Mill as a weaver and later as a custodian at Montello School, prior to his retirement.
He was a member of the Passe Temps Club, American Legion Post 158, Knights of Columbus and St. Mary’s Church. Normand enjoyed woodworking, court television shows, reading, working on cars and was a Red Sox fan.
He also was a news enthusiast and he especially enjoyed discussing the Potvin Family Tree, dating back to its roots in the 16th century.
He is survived by his wife, Florence Potvin of Lewiston; one son, Daniel L. Potvin and his wife, Melinda, of Leeds; four daughters, Anita L. and her husband, Paul Whitten, Diane J. and her husband, Marc Laliberte, Joline L. and her husband, Richard LaBonte and Gisele J. Potvin and her companion, Ronald LeBlanc, all of Lewiston; four sisters, Jeannine Cloutier, Lorraine Gagnon and her husband, Marcel, Dorothy Levaseur and Fleurette Bell and her husband, Reno, all of Lewiston; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a great-granddaughter, Natalie Brisson; and a brother, Lionel Potvin.
