AUBURN — Auburn Adult Education has announced classes for the month of October.

Certified Nurse’s Assistant, applications are currently being accepted.

Computer basics, Oct. 31, 6-7:30 p.m., Mondays for six weeks.

AAA safe driving for mature operators, 5-9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5. A video and lecture based course designed to increases safe driving awareness for those 55 and older. Qualifies for Maine’s mandatory insurance premium discount for 55-plus.

Alpaca School, Oct. 8 in Cumberland and Oct. 22 in Pownal. Both sessions are from 3-5 p.m. Learn about sustainable fiber farming and fiber arts in Maine at four alpaca farms. Preregistration is required.

Babysitter training for children ages 11-15, Oct. 13, 6 to 9 p.m., Thursdays for three weeks. Learn how to prevent accidents, what to do in an emergency and how important you can be in the life of a child. This course includes CPR training and certification.

Cancer: Let’s Take Another Look, 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 17. Teaches an entirely different viewpoint of what we call “cancer.” Based on the five Biological Laws of German New Medicine.

Embrace Your Heart’s Song, 6 to 9 p.m. Monday, Oct. 3. Learn how to connect with your heart’s energy to recharge and replenish your physical and energetic bodies and clear your auric field. 

Hand or tote bag, Oct. 13, 6 to 9 p.m. Thursdays for six weeks. Hand make a quilted handbag or tote by using this simple pattern.

Hormone rejuvenation for women, 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5. CALM HealthWorks offers an advanced method of endocrine (hormone) rebuilding based on traditional Chinese medicine and German homeopathy.

Hula hoop fitness, Oct. 26, 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesdays for six weeks. Increase flexibility, stability and build core strength with this fun, full-body toning and cardiovascular workout. Custom-made exercise hoops will be provided.

Maine Driving Dynamics, 6 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, Oct. 13 and 14. Offers all drivers the opportunity to improve defensive driving abilities. Those completing the course will receive a certificate and a three-point credit on their driving record. Seniors over 55 receive a discount on their auto insurance.

Makeup for a younger you, 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5. Learn professional makeup techniques.

Nutrient dense foods for optimal health, 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27. Dr. Weston Price traveled the world in the 1930s and 40s and studied isolated nonindustrialized people eating their native diets who were free from caner, hearth disease, diabetes, obesity, etc. This fascinating class will cover the 10 types of food and eating principles Price discovered. It will also cover the 11 types of foods to avoid.

Quilting for beginners, Oct. 12, 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays for six weeks. The rolling block quilt is a great starter quilt. Learn how to use a rotary cutter and mat for precise cutting and learn how to place all three layers and quilt them together.

Reiki II, 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18. Learn additional symbols, in absentia (long distance) healing and receive a second attunement increasing the ability to channel energy. Participants should have completed Reiki I.

Sewing I, Oct. 11, 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays for six weeks. Learn basic repair of a sewing machine, make buttonholes, insert zippers, replace fly front zippers, insert piping in clothing, make ruffles, recycle clothing by placing a pattern on old clothes and make something new.

Sewing II, Oct. 17, 6 to 9 p.m. Mondays for six weeks. Make a Raggedy Ann or Andy doll, learn how to cut a pattern and sew a garment.

Visits from loved ones, 6 to 9 p.m. Monday, Oct. 17. Utilizing Hemi-Sync frequencies and verbally guided meditations, participants will transport beyond space and time into the presence of those who love and understand them. While doing these exercises, they will attempt to meet loved ones, friends, angels and/or guides.

Women’s self defense, Oct. 4, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays for six weeks. Phoenix Karate Academy: Learn how to defend from both stand up and ground attacks as well as how to recognize a potential threat.

Spreadsheet skills, Oct. 29, 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesdays for five weeks. Learn how to create a wide variety of spreadsheets using Microsoft Excel and OpenOffice Calc.
