This year at the Waterford World’s Fair the Waterford Grange was awarded the first place ribbon and a check for $150, second place and $125 went to the Harrison Grange, third place and $100 went to Rumford Grange and fourth place and $75 to the Norway Grange. Elaine Emery, superintendent of the Exhibition Hall, said this was one of the best assortment of articles that she has had in recent years. Judging fair exhibits involves a long score card with several different levels for everything that is in the display, from sewing to growing vegetables to homemade jams and jellies to different kinds of grasses and forestry examples. All components are considered in the final score as well as how the display is laid out. Prentiss Kimball of Waterford was awarded Best of Show for a cedar chest that he made and Beth Allen of Norway received a Best of Show award for her Christmas quilt.
