When Tropical Storm Irene came through Oxford on Aug. 28, the wind knocked several large branches off this 100-plus-year-old maple tree on King Street. Property owner Tom Cushman hired a tree company to cut it down. He offered the wood to Cody Record of Otisfield if he would cut it up and take it away. With a mallet, wedge and chain saws, Record is cutting wood to burn in his outdoor wood boiler.
