100 years ago, 1911

The bowling season will be opened tonight at the L. & A. Alleys, Main Street, and on every day a prize will be offered for the winners. Last season was a banner one for the bowlers and the sport is rapidly increasing in favor in the two cities. Lewiston and Auburn can each boast some first class bowlers, as tournaments between men from the local alleys and others have shown.

50 years ago, 1961

A city-owned fleet of school buses is being considered by the Lewiston Board of Education. But the school board has nothing definite in mind at this time, according to Schools Supt. J. Weldon Russell. The board discussed a municipally owned school bus fleet at last week’s executive meeting and wants to meet with the planners to look into the feasibility of it a little further, he said.

25 years ago, 1986

Maine Bucket Company of Lewiston has been sold to Douglas M. and Susan L. Boyd of Haddonfield, N.J. The company was founded in 1982 by John and June Stauffer of Auburn.

It is one of only two nationwide manufacturers of replication colonial wooden buckets, used today primarily for outdoor planters, indoor decorative accent pieces, and in premium promotions by large corporations. The buyers have moved to Lewiston and will continue operation of the business at its current site.
