CARRABASSETT VALLEY — The Team Zespy Pro Shooting Team will  provide a demonstration of shotgun skills and trick shooting for the Carrabassett Valley Outdoor Association Sunday, Oct. 9, during the Sugarloaf Homecoming Weekend.

The performance will start at 1:30 p.m., following the traditional CVOA barbecue at the range located on Route 27, 1.7 miles north of the Sugarloaf access road.

Jerome Holt of Bethel, a professional exhibition shooter, will perform with his wingman, Colin Micklon of Fryeburg.

Another feature of the program will be the formal acceptance of two new projects conducted by Eagle Scout candidates Ian Wilson and Matt Beauregard of Boy Scout Troop #525, sponsored by CVOA. Wilson has developed an archery range with both static and simulated hunting targets. Beauregard’s project is a canopy for the rifle range firing line.

The Sunday range program will start at 9 a.m. with a regularly-scheduled fall trap shoot. Holt and Micklon are planning to participate.

At noon, CVOA range volunteers will put on the barbecue featuring grilled chicken, hamburgers and hot dogs and a variety of potluck offerings prepared by CVOA-member chefs. The full buffet will be $7.50 each but hot dogs, hamburgers and drinks will be sold individually.

The range committee is suggesting a $5 donation for those attending the shooting demonstration to help defray the costs of the program.

Holt is an expert marksman who has performed with “most any weapon – shotguns, pistols, revolvers, recurve and compound bows, throw-axe knives and even skill saw blades.” Holt started shooting when he was 5 years old and comes by it quite naturally. His father was a gunner’s mate in both World War II and Vietnam and was a weapons instructor at Maine Maritime Academy.

Micklon, an avid hunter, is an expert with shotguns, pistols and rifles.
