ALFRED — A 65-year-old Maine woman is suspected of setting a string of fires in York and Cumberland counties.

Carol Field of Standish is due to appear in York County Superior Court in Alfred Tuesday to answer two arson charges.

One of the fires she’s charged with setting was at the Raymond Hill Baptist Church in July.

Field was arrested Friday. Investigators believe Field is responsible for a total of 15 fires in southern Maine, most in vacant buildings or wooded areas.

Field is being held on $100,000 bail, but her attorney, J.P. DeGrinney, plans to argue for lesser bail.

DeGrinney told the Portland Press Herald Field has no history of violence and has always made court appearances in other cases.
