Garden Club

FARMINGTON — David King, owner of Sandy River Gardens in Phillips, will be the guest speaker at the Mt. Blue Area Garden Club meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 18, at Trinity United Methodist Church, Farmington Falls Road. A social half hour will start at 6 p.m. with desserts being served by hostesses Pat Durham and Roxanne Worster. After dessert, King will educate members and guests on the earliest history of lilacs and the many different varieties. President Amy Palmer will conduct the monthly meeting. Flu clinic

RANGELEY — Rangeley Family Medicine will hold a flu clinic from 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 20, in the lower level of the health center, 42 Dallas Hill Road. Vaccines will be available to everyone at no cost thanks to support from the Rangeley Region Health and Wellness Partnership, but donations will be appreciated. Insurances will not be billed.

According to the Maine Center for Disease Control, influenza is a serious disease that can lead to hospitalization and death. Although anyone can get sick from the flu, certain populations are at a higher risk of having flu-related complications. They include young children, persons aged 50 or older, health care personnel, pregnant women, people with chronic lung disease, diabetes, heart disease, neurologic conditions and certain other long-term health conditions.

Fish chowder

FARMINGTON — The Fairbanks Union Church will hold a fish chowder luncheon from 11:30 to 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21. The luncheon includes biscuit, pickles, cheese, dessert and coffee/tea beverage. For local delivery (within five miles of the church) call the church at 778-4705. The donation for the luncheon is $6.

Vining reunion

FARMINGTON — The descendants of Benjamin and Sarah (Ring) Vining will have the 26th annual Vining Reunion at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 22.

This reunion will be held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred Dunham, 434 Davis Road. There will be a potluck dinner at noon. Attendees should bring something to share.

Descendants are also asked to bring genealogical information and pictures to share with others. Musical instruments, readings and stories are also welcomed. All Vinings are welcome.

Booster craft fair

JAY — The Spruce Mountain Middle School Booster Club will hold a Christmas Craft Fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5, at the Spruce Mountain Middle School.

All interested vendors can obtain a vendor form in the Spruce Mountain Middle School office, by emailing [email protected] or by calling 320-0590. Space is $30 per vendor and all forms need to be returned with payment by Oct. 22. Only one direct sales vendor per company for this event. First come first serve.

All proceeds for the event will be used for the school.

Haunted hayride

EUSTIS — Stratton Elementary School eighth grade fundraiser, the 15th annual Stratton Haunted Hayride will take place Saturday, Oct. 22, at the Cathedral Pines Campground.

The evening will begin with a Family Festival from 5 to 6 p.m., including face painting, games and a costume contest. The haunted hayride will take place from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Admission is $4 per person.

The Drop Dead Cafe will again brew up homemade soups, drinks and goodies starting at 5 p.m.

Organizers are looking for people interested in setting up a site. To volunteer or for more information, call the Stratton Elementary School at 246-2283 and ask for the eighth grade.

Rummage sale

STRONG — The annual Fall Rummage Sale at the Strong United Methodist Parish House will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22. There will be a bake sale, candy sale, white elephant table, toys, books, puzzles and lots of rummage. Luncheon will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Basket bingo

FARMINGTON — Basket bingo will take place Sunday, Oct. 23, at Farmington Elks Lodge, West Farmington. Doors open at 11:30 a.m., games start at 1 p.m. Food concessions available.

This event is a fundraiser for the Farmington Rotary Club. These types of events allowed the Rotary to give more than $30,000 last year to many good causes.
