Should government do everything in its power to get as many voters out to the polls as possible, or should government err on the side of believing fraud is rampant?

Hmmm. Secretary of State Charlie Summers was quoted in the Sun Journal in a story Oct. 4 as saying his letter to exonerated voters was “not meant to be intimidating and was not an attempt to scare anyone away from voting.” He went on to say, “That’s the silliest thing I ever heard.”

I would share with Summers that many good Maine citizens are terrified to get their cars inspected. An inspection that turns up a $500 repair bill can easily mean you would no longer be able to actively look for a job.

The climate of fear that government can inadvertently establish should be better understood by a person in his position.
