BUCKFIELD — At the June meeting of John D. Long American Legion Post No. 58, three members were presented with Eagle Head Canes.

Scot Kendall, World War II veteran, brothers Merton and Shirley Jones, Korean War veterans, were presented Eagle Head Canes carved by brothers Luther, Robert and Charles Perry. The Perry brothers are members of Streaked Mountain Carvers Club a chapter of Maine Wood Carvers Association.

The Perry brothers work together as a team creating the canes in conjunction with the “Eagle Head Cane Project for Veterans” through the Maine Wood Carvers Association.

Older brother Luther turns the hard wood cane shaft, Robert carves the eagle head and younger brother Charles carves insignias, medal awards and the names of the veterans. All three brothers are military veterans.
