LISBON FALLS — Ancient York Lodge #155 of Lisbon Falls and the Grand Lodge of Maine will host an open house from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, at the Masonic Lodge on Lisbon Street just off Main Street.

Members of Ancient York Lodge are comprised largely of Lisbon and Lisbon Falls residents.

Other locations holding open houses on Oct. 15 include Freeport Lodge #23 at 33 Mallet Drive, comprised largely of Freeport residents; Acadia Lodge #121 on Route 196 in Durham, comprised largely of Durham and Lisbon Falls residents; and Village Lodge #26 at 13 Main St., Bowdoinham, comprised largely of Bowdoin, Bowdoinham and Richmond residents.

The society is dedicated to the principle of “making good men better,” by providing opportunities for fellowship, charity, education and leadership while creating friendship and understanding between men without regard to nationality, religion, race, background or opinion.

Freemasons trace their history back to the stonemason guilds that built Europe’s cathedrals and castles. Organized in Maine nearly 250 years ago, they have been an integral part of our nation’s history.

Benjamin Franklin, George Washington, Thurgood Marshal and John Glenn, as well as Maine’s own Joshua Chamberlain are among the many famous men who joined the organization before achieving the greatness for which they are recognized.
