COVINGTON, Ga. — Aliyah Simone Seaman, at the tender age of 10, passed from this earthly life on Oct. 7.
Aliyah was born on Jan. 3, 2001, in Lewiston, lived in Covington, Ga., and grew up in both Maine and Georgia.
Aliyah joyfully packed so much in her 10 years. She was a regular and active member of the Newton County Arts Association’s Oxford Singing Children in both musical and theatre/dance performances, a student of the Tiger Graham Institute of Arts and learned hip-hop at Mainstream Dance. Dancing was among her most favorite thing to do. Aliyah enjoyed Girl Scouts, 4-H, drama at the New Birth Missionary Church and participated in the Washington Street dance and drama programs. She participated in praise dance, Sunday school and the choir at Grace United Methodist Church and enjoyed vacation Bible school.
Aliyah enjoyed reading, swimming among other favorites and always wanted to try her hand in cheerleading. She was often seen in pink, her favorite color and loved ribs, sweet tea, root beer, grapes, cherry ice cream and liked walks with family and friends.
Aliyah was in the fifth-grade at Porterdale Elementary School. Consistently making the honor roll, her favorite subjects were reading and math as well as history. She was part of the Quest program for high achieving students and Pearl of Essence, a leadership development club at her school. Her favorite books to read were “Matilda” and “Junie Bean.” She was passionate about drawing and talked about being a lawyer or a veterinarian.
She loved life and adventure, traveling with her family and friends to Disney World, her father’s farm in Maine and to Jamaica, touching people of all ages, races and walks of life.
She is survived by her mother, Ingrid Sophia Seaman; stepfather, Eric Seaman; dad, Jerry Means; sisters, Shantel Tamara Seaman, India Means, Jeri Means and Tayjah Means; brother, Jabari Means; godmother, Deidre Deans; maternal grandparents, Hyacinth Rowe and Neville Williams; paternal grandparents, Thelma Seaman and Jerry and Georgina Means; and a multitude of aunts and uncles and extended family.
Aliyah is a shinning star and a gift from God. We love and surely miss her. We are sorry you have gone so soon and love you deeply and forever.
