BANGOR — Husson University didn’t let rain get in the way of beating the University of Maine at Farmington, 1-0, in a women’s soccer game Wednesday.

The Eagles got the lone tally just 2:10 into the game, when Marcella Francoeur took a corner kick and served the ball into the zone, which was cleared by the Beavers, but the ball found the feet of Alexandra Laniewski. Laniewski served the ball back to Fancoeur who blasted a shot from 30 yards out that went over the visiting keeper and snuck under the bar for the early score.

Husson played defense the rest of the contest and fended off Beaver attacks to finish the game with a narrow one-goal lead. Eagle keeper Jessica Poulin made six saves to earn the shutout and her 5th win of the year. Her counterpart Beth Label of Lewiston stopped six shots.

BANGOR — The Husson University men’s soccer team struck twice in the second half to complete a comeback and beat the University of Maine at Farmington with a 2-1 victory Wednesday.

The Beavers were on the board first, netting the only goal of the first half when the Eagles’ back line mishandled a cross that landed at the feet of Jordan Hale. With the ball and the Husson keeper charging toward him, Hale sent it to Joc Caldwell who was able to help it over the line. UMF took a 1-0 lead and had the momentum going into the break.

A rejeuvenated Husson team came back out for the second half. Zach Emeigh carried the ball up the right flank and sent a brilliant ball toward the box, and it was redirected by Philip Frost, who put his team-lead tying eighth goal of the season.

With just under five minutes left to play, Husson earned a thow-in just past the team’s bench. Andrew Austin stepped up to take the front-flipping long throw. Austin’s throw was directly on goal, and UMF goalie Tennessee Peters tried to knock it over the bar, but the ball found the back of the net.
