AUBURN — The Maine Heat, a travel baseball club based in Auburn, will be holding Player Evaluations for anyone intersted in playing AAU baseball in 2012. Players need to be 13 or 14 and cannot turn 15 before May 1, 2012. The Heat plays a competitive schedule against other AAU teams from Central and Southern Maine beginning in April and running thru July. Games and practices are scheduled so not to conflict with players school or summer league teams. Evaluations will be held on Sunday, Oct. 23 at the Auburn Suburban Complex on the Babe Ruth Field starting at 10 a.m. and ending at 11:30 a.m. Players are asked to arrive by 9:45 and to bring their gloves and cleats and to dress accordingly. Phoenix offers bootcamp course

AUBURN — Starting Nov. 14, Phoenix Academy of Martial Arts will be introducing its new six-week Bootcamp course. The class will be held on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 5:15 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. During this course you will be taught how to correctly work different parts of your body for maximum results. This will be a fun class in which you will progressively increase your strength and cardio to melt away fat and tone and shape your body.

Auburn Rec youth hoop

AUBURN — Auburn Recreation announces its youth basketball program for  students in Grades 1 to 12.

This is a developmental youth basketball program that places participation, skill development and sportsmanship above points scored. The measure of success in this program is how much a player has improved from the beginning of the season to the end. Teams of up to 10 players are formed in each division of play. A volunteer head coach and assistants instruct players in all aspects of the game under the supervision of the Rec Department.

Please note that students playing on the high school basketball teams are ineligible from playing in this program.

The season will run from Nov. 14, 2011 to Feb. 18, 2012. 2

There are three easy ways to register: In person at the rec office in the Hasty Community Center, Pettengill Park; by completing a form and sending with payment (checks payable to Auburn Rec Dept.) to 48 Pettengill Park Road, Auburn, Maine 04210; or going online to www.teamsideline.com/auburnme and clicking on the “Online Program Registrations” link on the left of the page.

Registration takes place through Nov. 11 and is $40 for residents or $50 for non-residents. 

Mandatory player evaluations will take places at the following times: Grades 3-4, Nov. 14, 5:30 p.m.; Grades 5-6, Nov. 15, 5:30 p.m.; Grades 7-8, Nov. 16, 5:30 p.m.; Grades 9-12, Nov. 29, 5:30 p.m. All evaluations will take place at Hasty Community Center.
