Country Showdown

MECHANIC FALLS — The Northeast Invitational Country Showdown, hosted by the Down East Country Music Association, will be Oct. 22 and 23 at the Silver Spur, Route 121.

The competition will take place from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22. The awards show will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 23. Award winners from New England states will be participating.

Admission each day is $7 for adults, $3 for children under 12. There will be a food bar, 50/50 drawing and raffles.

AUBURN — Temple Shalom in Auburn and Prince of Peace Catholic Parish in Lewiston will host Linda Gray Kelley’s one-woman presentation of “Women of the Bible: The Good Girls and the Bad Girls” at 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 23, at Temple Shalom on Bradman Street. Kelley produces, directs, costumes and performs famous and infamous women of the Old Testament including Eve, Delilah, Naomi, Ruth, Bathsheba and others.

Cemetery group

AUBURN — The North Auburn Cemetery Association will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 24, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Lebel at 625 North Auburn Road. Those interested are invited to attend.

Domestic violence

AUBURN — In response to this year’s domestic violence homicides, Safe Voices is partnering with the Auburn Public Library to host “What Next?: Holding Domestic Violence Offenders Accountable.” This event is an open forum to discuss what is being done in the Lewiston-Auburn area to address people who commit acts of domestic violence. The forum will feature a panel of community leaders representing the District Attorney’s office, Alternatives to Abuse (a Batterer’s Intervention Program), Auburn Police Dept. and Safe Voices.

The forum will be held at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 24, at the library. Community question and answer time will be available at the end.

Maine movie

AUBURN — The Movies in Maine series will continue with “The Man Without a Face” at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25, at Auburn Public Library, 49 Spring St.

Directed by and starring Mel Gibson, the film is about Justin McLeod, a reclusive former teacher with half his face and body badly scarred, and a dark, secret past.

Pathways meeting

AUBURN — The Pathways Inc. annual meeting, celebrating 37 years of service, will take place at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25, at Prospect Hill Golf Course, 694 South Main St. Refreshments will be served.

Historical society

HEBRON — The Hebron Historical Society will host Richard and Marcia Cylik and their presentation of the personal aspects of the Civil War soldier at their Tuesday, Oct 25, meeting. The Cyliks will do their presentation in period garb. Mr. Cylik is a reenactor as a member of Company A, 3rd Maine Regiment Volunteer Infantry. The presentation will be at the Hebron Town office at 7 p.m. following a short meeting. The public is invited.

Laugh with Judkins

LEWISTON — The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing at Central Maine Medical Center will offer a free community event featuring comedian and entertainer Randy Judkins. “Laughing in the Face of Change” will take place from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 26, at The Public Theatre, 31 Maple St.
