LEWISTON — The U.S.S. Canberra Association in conjunction with area veterans organizations will meet at the Lewiston Memorial Park at noon Saturday, Oct. 29, to observe the anniversary of two terrorist attacks.

On Oct. 23, 1983, there was a truck bombing of the U.S. Marines barrack in Beirut, Lebanon, where 241 Marines and U.S. Naval personnel lost their lives.

On Oct. 12, 2000, there was a boat bombing at the refueling docks in Yemen where the U.S.S. Cole was anchored. Seventeen crew members lost their lives.

The program will include the singing of the national anthem; invocation by Rev. Douglas Taylor; history of the U.S. Marine Corps by Roland Cyr, past commandant, Central Maine Marine Corps League; reading of a special proclamation by Jerry DerBoghosian, president of U.S.S. Canberra Association; and the singing of “God Bless America.”
